In 2014, with assistance from the New Jersey State Forestry Services, U.S. Forest Service and international researchers from the United Kingdom and Russia teamed up to collect data on a prescribed fire conducted in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. The fire’s embers, or commonly known as fire brands, were one important aspect of the study. Gary Chancey takes us to one of America’s fire prone areas where researchers are hoping their work will help protect lives and property in the future. We acknowledge funding from the Joint Fire Science Program under Project JFSP 12-1-03-11.
